Team up with the best mentors and develop your skills through our one-year program – custom tailored for artist, songwriters and producers.
At Limpi you’ll be making as much music as possible, with the intention of constantly developing your craft and getting your songs out into the world. Becoming a master at anything takes thousands of hours of focused, well guided effort.
We want you to be able to dig deep into your own work, in an environment that elevates you and holds you to the highest standards possible. In order to make this happen, we’ve set aside a major proportion of your time at LIMPI for hands on music making. The input you receive through mentors and lectures is there to guide, inform and inspire your current project, as well as your overall skills and creativity. However, there is no substitute for actually doing it.
That’s why we have designed our program based around guided sessions, workshops and personal studio time. So whether you thrive in a big studio surrounded by talent, or prefer solitude with your laptop or guitar to make magic, we’re ready for you.
«I think that sometimes songwriting, especially for pop, is viewed as a factory or an assembly line process, and I have to challenge that... I think that good songwriting has a real art to it, and I don’t just mean the profound or thought-provoking ones».
Emily Warren Singer/Songwriter and mentor at Limpi
Music unites talent from vastly different backgrounds and with different experiences. By inspiring and challenging each other through collaboration, we’re able to create something bigger than the sum of the individual parts. We know that being a team player is instrumental to success in music, and this knowledge penetrates all our efforts at LIMPI.
Collaboration is placed at the heart of everything. Artists, songwriters, producers, managers and budding A&R’s mingle and work together. You will constantly be in sessions with others complementing and lifting your skills. You’ll write songs together, collaborate on productions, perform together and maybe even embark on a music business venture together.
«The only way to find the right people, is by being in an environment where there’s a lot of them».
Tor Erik Hermansen Producer and mentor at Limpi
Learning through involved mentorship has been the preferred method of most artists and writers throughout history. We wanted to create a system around this approach and give new talent access to a wide range of mentors, who all have risen to the very top of their field.
So we buildt a network of writers, artists, producers and music biz people, who have taken time out of their busy schedules to visit Limpi on a regular basis throughout the semester. This creates a continuous flow of new impulses, held together by our method and our day to day faculty.
The mentors will conduct sessions with smaller groups as well as addressing a wider audience, depending on the subject at hand. We also think it’s crucial with direct exchange, person to person, and have made sure there is ample opportunity for one-on-one interaction with the mentors.
«If I knew then, what I know now, it could have saved me 10 years».
Espen Lind Singer/Songwriter and mentor at Limpi
Getting your music out there seems to be the biggest hurdle for new artists and writers. The gatekeepers of the music industry are hard to get to and sometimes it’s difficult to even know where to look to find them.
At LIMPI we have brought the relevant players right into our community. This creates an environment where you can keep complete focus on excelling at your craft, in the knowledge that when you create something outstanding, it will be heard and recognized, and potentially reach a wide audience.
We bring in major labels, publishers and managers in a mutually beneficial exchange where they will contribute with real world case studies as well as real world opportunities for you as a Limpi student.
«It was sometimes frustrating when I started out. I could do this great song, but had no idea how to get the right people to listen to it».
Fred Ball Producer and mentor at Limpi
The music industry is changing by the minute, and it’s more important than ever to stay on top of the development for emerging artists and music makers.
We think the future will reward those with an entrepreneurial spirit, who value their own rights and understand the inner workings of the business side of things. It’s vital to have a good understanding of infrastructure, roles, income streams and copyright. This insight will be crucial in helping you make complex business decisions, and to set you up for a long and sustainable career.
At Limpi we’ll take you through big data analysis, entrepreneurship , music law, strategy, marketing and communication. These subjects will be explored through lectures, workshops and case studies, presented by music industry professionals who deal with this on a daily basis. We will make sure that you leave Limpi business savvy and confident enough to navigate your own career.
«Songwriters and artists are at the core of this industry. Having a solid understanding of how their work is administered and capitalized, gives them an important advantage».
Lena Midtveit Adm.dir. Sony Music Norway and mentor at Limpi
Gaining hands on experience, working with talented peers and getting valuable feedback and mentorship. This is your typical week at Limpi.
Kick off your week with massive input. During Mondays and Tuesdays, the mentors will be conducting master classes and sessions in smaller groups. These sessions go deep, exposing you to the tools needed for your specific skill set, developing your craft and drawing lines through history. Monday evenings are intense and can go very late. The mentors work one-on-one with the students on their songs, giving you a chance to get direct, individual feedback. Tuesday is full on collab time with the mentors, who go from room to room throughout the day, guiding and participating to make sure your work is at the highest level possible. Wednesday through Friday is action time. You will be immersed in your weekly projects, supported by relevant lectures and gatherings inspiring the current task at hand.
